Schmidhauser Named As Assistant Tennis Coach

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's tennis coach Jonas Brobeck announced that Max Schmidhauser has been added to the staff as an assistant coach.

A Providence native, Schmidhauser was a volunteer assistant coach with Bryant University in the Fall of 2025. Before that, he played on the nationally-ranked Division II Azusa Pacific University men's tennis team from 2023-25. After initially making the team as a walk-on, Schmidhauser earned a scholarship in his second year with the team. In his two seasons, the team was a combined 47-5 and was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally.

"We are so excited to have Max join our coaching staff as an assistant coach," Brobeck said. "His calling in life is coaching, and I can't wait to have him start working with our student-athletes. His drive and commitment to excellence will help push this team towards new heights."

Schmidhauser was in the Azusa Pacific starting lineup for all three of its matches in the team's run to the Division II NCAA Quarterfinals last Spring. He was 8-2 last season in singles play, and 16-3 overall in his singles career. He began his collegiate career at Texas Christian University, where he was a member of the men's cross country and track and field teams as a freshman.

A U.S. Professional Tennis Association Level 1 Certified Tennis Instructor, he also completed the ITA Rising Coaches Certification in 2024. Schmidhauser also is a tennis coach at Rally Point Racquet Club. He previously was the Elite Junior Summer Program Coach for Longfellow Tennis Academy (2023) and Brookline Tennis Academy (2022). Schmidhauser also has worked summer camps for Brown University (2017 and 2018) and the Austin Tennis Academy (2013-2016).
