Rams Win Fifth Straight Atlantic 10 Indoor Title to Continue Dynasty

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's track & field team won its fifth-straight Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Rhody accrued 178.5 points over the two-day competition, besting second-place George Mason by a margin of 66 points. Matt Santy earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer while head coach Trent Baltzell was named Coach of the Year for the third time in as many indoor championships. 

Champions

  • Matt Santy defended his title in the high jump with a mark of 2.07m. It was his second gold medal of the meet, as he won the long jump on Friday (7.19m). 
  • Jarrett Young won the 400m in a meet-record time of 47.33 to pick up a key 10 points for URI. He improved on his runner-up performance from the 2023-24 championship meet.
  • In his first A-10 championship meet, Maddox Jordan earned a gold medal in the 800m. His time of 1:51.311 edged teammate Antonio Capalbo by .004 seconds as the duo provided a key +18-point swing for the Rams.
  • Theo Puterbaugh and Chris Tavarone claimed the top two spots in the shotput. Puterbaugh, who earned a silver to Tavarone's gold last year, had a 16.96-meter toss. Tavarone finished with a mark of 16.06m, earning his third career medal in the event. 

Podium Finishes

  • Adam Melnick, Maddox Jordan, Antonio Capalbo and Joe DosReis teamed up for a second-place performance in the 4x800m Relay. The quartet finished in 7:34.26, setting a new facility record behind Saint Joseph's winning team. 
  • The top five finishers in the 3000m set meet records. Rhody's Nick Martin earned a silver medal in 8:05.58.
  • DosReis ran a 4:09.89 in the Mile for third place overall. He was .43 seconds off the winning pace. 
  • Alex Arbogast finished third in a tightly-contested 60m final. Fordham's Njaminaweh Abdul Latif won it in 6.806, VCU's Emmanuel Oche crossed in 6.809 and Arbogast came across in 6.810. 
  • Arbogast also earned a bronze medal in the 200m (21.54) to add another six points to URI's total. 
  • Cam Miller cleared 2.04 meters in the high jump for a podium finish, claiming bronze.
