Women's Track & Field

Rams Win New England Indoor Title

KINGSTON, R.I. - For the first time in program history, the Rhode Island women's track & field team won the NEICAAA Indoor Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Rhody accrued 134 points over the two-day meet to best second-place Quinnipiac (109 points) by a solid margin. The team had 12 top-three finishes and took home three different events.

A week after winning the event at the Atlantic 10 Championship, Lily Saul took home the 1000m when she crossed the line in 2:47.11. She improved her time from the conference meet by nearly three full seconds (2.76), setting a new personal best.

Megan Wood also won an individual title, doing so in the shotput with a mark of 46' 7 1/2". A year ago, she was second in the event with a 45' 9 3/4" toss.

Odette van Wyk, Saul, Nyah Santana and Sydney Federico accounted for the team's final event win as they took home the 4x400m Relay. The group recorded a time of 3:44.56, besting second-place Holy Cross by four seconds.

Rhody's strongest event of the day was the pole vault, where the squad had three different student-athletes score. Katelyn Welsh led the feat by clearing 12' 2" to finish second. Both Olivia Priest (third, 12' 2") and Allison Vigue (sixth, 11' 10") joined her in the top eight.
