How it Happened
Rhode Island could not generate any offense for the third straight game, falling at George Washington 7-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.
Rhode Island (12-31, 5-16 Atlantic 10) managed five hits off George Washington starter Anna Reed (15-6). While Reed was shutting down the Rams, her offense was providing a steady stream of scoring.
GW (30-17, 14-8 A-10) scored three runs in the first, one in the second and two more in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead. Leadoff hitter Allison Heffley and No. two hitter Ashley Corpuz combined for four hits and six runs scored to lead the attack for the Revolutionaries.
Rhode Island's best chance to score came in the top of the sixth.
Natalie Maleitzke led off with a walk and
Hannah Hernandez followed with an infield single. A groundout moved both to scoring position.
Kylie Bulinski drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but the Rams were unable to bring any runners in.
