RHODE ISLAND VS. PROVIDENCE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Providence are playing for the 53rd time, with Rhody holding a 32-14-6 edge.
  • URI won the most recent meeting, beating the Friars 1-0 in Providence last season behind a first-half goal by Patrick Gryczewski.
  • Each of the last four matches in the series have been decided by one goal or less. The sides played to 1-1 draws in both 2021 and 2022. Providence recorded a 2-1 win in 2023, its most recent visit to Kingston.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT 

  • Providence is coming to Kingston off a 2-0 victory over Boston College Friday night. 
  • Seniors Cameron Yriondo and Caden Stafford scored the goals for the Friars, who were shutout in each of their first two matches of the season. 
  • Keeper Ryan Carney needed to make just one save in the win, as the Providence defense allowed just seven total shots.
  • Head coach Craig Stewart is 129-85-36 in 14 seasons at the helm of the Friars.
  • Providence was 13-6-3 last season and reached the second round of the NCAA Championship.

HARRIS, MARTIN RECORD FIRST CAREER POINTS   

  • In last Monday's loss at Bryant, sophomore Theo Harris and redshirt freshman Collin Martin teamed up for Rhode Island's lone goal.
  • Martin sent a through up the right side for Harris, who muscled his way by the Bryant defense and slipped a hard shot under the Bryant keeper. 
  • It was the first career goal for Harris and the first career assist for Martin, who made his career debut in the match.

ALL THE ACTION IS COMING LATE   

  • All seven goals scored by the Rams and the opposition this year have come in the second half.
  • In the season opener against Iona, neither side scored until the Gaels broke through in the 55th minute.
  • At Bryant on Tuesday, the first goal didn't come until the 70th minute.
  • All three goals in that match came in a span of 5:38 in the second half.
  • Rhode Island's three goals have been scored by junior forward Daniel Goba, senior midfielder Parker Vasic and sophomore forward Theo Harris.
  • The team also has three assists, which all have been provided by freshmen.
  • True freshmen Sinan Bruning and Maksim Kalina notched assists in the draw with Bryant, while redshirt freshman Collin Martin had one in his collegiate debut at Bryant.
