RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN - SERIES NOTES

  • Brown leads Rhode Island in the all-time series, 41-15-4.
  • The teams have met in eight of the last nine years, with the lone exception being 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Rhode Island is looking for its first win in the series since 2021, when it beat the Bears 3-1 in Kigston.
  • Last season, Brown won 2-1 in Providence. 
  • Current junior Lorenzo Amaral scored both goals for the Bears, getting one early in each half.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT 

  • After winning its first two matches of the season, Brown has dropped two straight.
  • The Bears fell at Boston University on Sept. 5 and then to Connecticut at home on Sept. 10, both by the score of 3-1.
  • Midfielder Mads Stistrup Peterson has scored three of Brown's five goals this season.
  • He scored once each against Holy Cross, Fairfield and Boston University.
  • Keeper Henrik Weiper has been Brown's only goalie thus far. He has a 1.75 goals-against average with nine saves and seven goals allowed in four matches.
  • Head coach Chase Wileman is in his fourth season with Brown and has an overall record of 23-21-12.
  • Dating back to Oct. 1, 2022, Brown is exactly .500 over its last 50 matches, going 19-19-12. 

BACKLINE SETTLING IN   

  • Rhode Island's starting defense for the last two matches has consisted of Tim Huhnholz and Joel Bona in the middle, flanked by Sebastian Berntsen and Takumi Kumamura on the outside.
  • Along with keeper Lenno Schmidt, the group has allowed just one goal in each of the last two matches.
  • The last time Rhode Island allowed a single goal or less was a two-match span from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5 in 2024, when it tied Bryant 0-0 and then blanked Loyola Chicago, 1-0.
  •  After allowing 15.3 shots per game through the first four matches, Rhode Island has given up 9.5 per match over the last two games.
  • Only 11 of the 19 shots allowed in the last two matches have been on goal.

BERNTSEN RECORDS FIRST CAREER POINT   

  • Freshman Sebastian Berntsen picked up his first career point in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Fordham.
  • The Aalesund, Norway native sent a cross that Theo Harris was able to head in for a goal in the 75th minute. 
  • Berntsen is one of three Rams to start all six matches this season, along with junior midfielder Tiago Barraguinha and graduate transfer and fellow defender Joel Bona.
