NO. 6/7 RHODE ISLAND vs. LIU - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and LIU are meeting for the second straight season.
- Last season, the teams met for the first time, with the Rams winning 28-21 on the road.
- Running back Malik Grant rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
- His final score of the game came with 1:08 to go, lifting the Rams to the win.
- Linebacker A.J. Pena had five tackles, including 2.0 sacks to lead the defense.
- LIU is playing on the road for the third time in four games. The Sharks lost 55-0 at Florida in season opener, then they won 28-23 at Western Michigan the following week.
- Rhody defensive backs Ayinde Johnson and Leisaan Hibbert both began their careers at LIU. Â
TWO-MINUTE DRILL
- Rhode Island has outscored the opposition 17-0 in the final two minutes of the first half this season.
- Rhody has scored in the final two minutes of the second quarter in each of its first three games
- Running back Antwain Littleton, Jr. had a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:57 left in the first half against Campbell.
- Littleton caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Devin Farrell seven seconds before the half at Stony Brook.
- Kicker Garth White kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:24 to go in the first half at Holy Cross.
RAMS LOOK FOR SECOND STRAIGHT HOMECOMING WIN
- Saturday's game will be the 97th Homecoming Game for Rhode Island.
- Dating back to the first Homecoming Game in 1924, the Rams are 41-55-1.
- Last season, Rhody defeated Maine 24-14 in front of 5,450 fans.
- It was the program's third Homecoming win in the last four seasons.
- There was no Homecoming from 1943-45 due to World War II.
- There was no Homecoming in the 2020-21 Spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
OFFENSIVE LINE KEEPING THE PRESSURE OFF
- Left tackle Brock Bethea, left guard Christian Smith, center Tre Alexander, right guard Damon McMillian, Jr. and right tackle Thomas Buxton have allowed just three sacks through three games.
- The 1.0 sacks allowed per game is the lowest in the country.
- Rhode Island also have given up just 10 tackles for loss on the season.
- The 3.33 tackles for loss per game is the third lowest average in the country.
- URI has run 190 plays from scrimmage this season, and have had just 13 negative plays.Â
- That means the Rams lose yardage on just seven percent of their snaps.
RAMS SECOND IN NATION IN SACKS
- With 10 sacks through the first three games, Rhode Island is second in the country with 3.33 sacks per game.
- Only Valparaiso (3.67 sacks/game) is averaging more per game.Â
- The Rams had five sacks - one by five different players - in last week's win at Holy Cross.
- All 10 sacks for the Rams have come in the second half.
- Linebacker Rohan Davy leads the Rams with 3.0 sacks.
- He has recorded one in each game this year.
- Fellow linebackers A.J. Pena and Moses Meus have 2.0 sacks each.
- Linebackers Sam Ofurie and John Boyles and defensive tackle Case Mankins each have one.
THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE UNBEATEN
- Rhode Island is one of 10 FCS teams that remain unbeaten in 2025, not including the Ivy League, which has not begun to play.
- Tarleton State of the Atlantic Sun is 4-0 and has a victory over FBS program Army.Â
- Rhode Island; Tennessee Tech (Ohio Valley); Presbyterian (Pioneer); Western Georgia (Atlantic Sun); Lehigh (Patriot League); North Dakota State (Missouri Valley); South Dakota State (Missouri Valley) and UTRGV (Southland) are all 3-0.
