KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's golf team will play five high-end tournaments this Spring leading up to the Atlantic 10 Championship in the final weekend of April.
After winning four of the six tournaments it played during the Fall, Rhody will open the Spring in Puerto Rico from Feb. 8-10 for the UNC Greensboro-hosted Palamas Del Mar Collegiate. The Rams also will play tournaments hosted by Stetson, Appalachian State, Villanova and Penn State as they ramp up heading to the league tournament.
"Overall this is an aggressive upgrade to our schedule with tremendous thanks to our donors who finance our travel," Rhode Island head coach
Gregg Burke said. "Starting in Puerto Rico so early and against a tremendous field with be a huge challenge, but we've designed the schedule to challenge us to be better prepared for the Atlantic 10 Championship."
As the calendar turns to March, URI heads to Daytona Beach for the Sam Ryder Invitational hosted by Stetson. The tournament will be played at the LPGA International Golf Club, which has served as the LPGA's home course since 1994. That tournament is followed by the Surf Golf and Beach Club Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. from March 9-10. It is a return trip to an event the Rams last played in the 2023-24 season.
"Things don't get any easier when we go to Daytona Beach and face another great field in Stetson's very respected tournament," Burke said. "We're south again when we go back to Myrtle Beach and play at the Surf Club. We've always enjoyed that event and look to have a solid finish there as we have not always played our best in the past."
The final two events will be in the Northeast. Rhody plays in Villanova's Wildcat Spring Invitational (April 6-7) in Galloway, N.J. before returning to the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State from April 18-19. It will be the fourth straight season the Rams compete in the Rutherford. Last season, Rhody's
Luke Stennett won his first individual title at the Rutherford last season.
"We're very excited to play in Villanova's new tournament," Burke said. "After that we return to Penn State where Luke will be defending his individual title from a year ago."
It all leads up to the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship, which returns to the Grand Cypress Golf Club at the Evermore Resort in Orlando, Fla.
"We finish at Grand Cypress at the A-10 Championship and should be one of the Top Three teams in the field," Burke said. "Right now we are rated No. 1 in the league, but we will have to prove that against a great schedule to remain at the top."
