WINCHESTER, Mass. - Rhode Island fell in its first match of the Spring, losing 7-0 at Boston University Saturday afternoon.
The Rams (0-1) got a victory from the doubles team of
Grace Darcy and
Anastasia Pettersson, who were successful at No. 2 doubles. BU won the matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the team point.
Pettersson was the lone Ram to win a set in singles play. Going against Blanka DeMicheli at No. 4 singles, Pettersson rallied. She dropped the first set 6-2 and then evened the match by taking the second set by the same score. DeMicheli pulled out the deciding set, 6-4.
"It was a tough loss today against a very good Boston University team," Rhode Island head coach
Jonas Brobeck said. "We played a good doubles point, but we came out of the gate a bit slow in singles which hurt us. Overall, the team competed well and there is a lot of positives we will build on. Everyone is excited to get back competing again next weekend."
Rhode Island is back on the road to play Fairfield on Saturday, Jan. 31. The match begins at 5:15 p.m.
