NEWPORT, R.I. - Rhode Island's four-match win streak was halted with a 5-2 loss to Hofstra Sunday.
The Rams (4-2) got wins from
Anastasia Pettersson and
Kajsa Helgesen in singles play, but it was not enough. NJIT (5-1) took the doubles point and the top three singles matches to secure the victory.
"Congratulations to NJIT," Rhode Island head coach
Jonas Brobeck said. "They played better than us today in important moments of the match. We needed a physical match like this. The team is looking forward to a good Brown team next weekend."
Pettersson beat Feysa Aydin 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Helgesen also won in straight sets at No. 5, beating Asima Sazan 7-5, 6-1.
Sophie Herrman and
Miruna Scarlat battled for URI at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Both played three-set matches.
