KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior
Josiah Tong has been named as an assistant team captain by Head Coach
Gregg Burke.
A consistent presence in the Ram lineup since he arrival in Kingston, Tong joins senior
Aidan O'Donovan in leadership roles for the team. O'Donovan was named as the team captain in September.
"Josiah has shown in increasing awareness of his role on the team both on and off the golf course. This is a natural step for all of us," Burke said. "He is among the most mature, dedicated, focused, young men I've had in the program. This surely will increase our leadership base for the stretch run."
Tong has a pair of top 10 finishes this season. He tied for fifth out of 75 golfers at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate and tied for eighth out of 60 at the Wykagyl Collegiate. Those were two of the four team titles Rhode Island has won this year.
Rhode Island begins play at the Sam Ryder Invitational on Monday. The 54-hole tournament is the first of two March events for the Rams.
