How It Happened
A fast start was not enough as Rhode Island fell 6-3 at Saint Joseph's in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Rhode Island (3-4, 0-1 Atlantic 10) scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings, giving the Rams a 3-2 lead midway through the game. However, Saint Joseph's (7-9, 1-0 A-10) scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead for the first time.

Giana Muhaw led off with a single and Elyssa Hasapis followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Julia Shearer delivered both with a single that made the score 4-3.

In the top of the sixth, Rayah Snyder had a two-out single and moved into scoring position on an error. An infield pop up ended the threat.

The Hawks added insurance in the bottom of the sixth. Solo home runs by Grace Brown and Jenna Currie made the score 6-3 in favor of the hosts. Taylor Trowbridge set the Rams down in order in the seventh to ed the game.
