Moroney Named Brooks Wallace Award Semifinalist

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island shortstop Reece Moroney was named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, presented by the College Baseball Foundation, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Moroney is one of 50 shortstops from around the country to earn the recognition based on both their offensive and defensive production this season. He joins Owen Clyne (George Mason) and Dyerson Wouters (Dayton) from fellow Atlantic 10 schools.

Offensively, Moroney leads the Rams in batting average (.363), RBI (36), hits (57), doubles (12), OPS (.908), and on base percentage (.418). His batting average is fourth-best in the Atlantic 10 and 90th nationally. Defensively, he has a .974 fielding percentage with a team-high 94 assists and four errors.

An A-10 All-Rookie team selection in 2024, and a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 member in 2025, Moroney has been a model of consistency for Rhode Island over the course of his three seasons in Kingston. He has played in 142 of 146 games over the last three seasons while starting in 141.

The award named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
