Baseball Heads to New Haven for Midweek Meeting

RHODE ISLAND AT NEW HAVEN - SERIES NOTES
  • Rhode Island heads to New Haven for a match up with the Chargers on Tuesday, April 28.
  • This is the second meeting between Rhode Island and New Haven this season and overall.
  • The Rams downs the Chargers 11-0 on Tuesday, March 10 in the 2026 home opener.
  • Rhode Island head coach Raphael Cerrato was previously the head coach of New Haven from 2007 to 2011. He won 131 games as the Chargers skipper before returning to Rhode Island in 2012 as an assistant under then head coach Jim Foster. 
  • Cerrato took over as the head coach of the Rams in 2015.
  • New Haven is currently in its first season as a member of the Northeast Conference.
  • New Haven accepted its invitation to the NEC in May 2025 and began its membership on July 1, 2025. Prior to joining the NEC, the Chargers were NCAA Division II.
RECAPPING THE RAMS WIN OVER NEW HAVEN IN MARCH
  • Behind a five-fun sixth inning that included a grand slam from Ryan Henschel, Rhode Island blanked New Haven in its home opener 11-0 at Bill Beck Field on Tuesday, March 10.
  • Rhode Island scored runs in six of its eight offensive half innings to secure its second consecutive win.
  • Rhode Island used the game as a bullpen day utilizing nine different pitchers across all nine innings.
  • Each Rhode Island pitcher went one complete inning and no one faced more than four batters.
  • Two Rams struck out the side in their respective innings of work; Connor Grotyohann did so in the second and Parker Aikens did it again in the ninth. 
  • Rhode Island pitching combine for 11 total strikeouts and two walks. 
RHODE ISLAND'S WEDNESDAY MEETING WITH BROWN CANCELED
  • Rhode Island and Brown agreed to cancel their originally scheduled game at Bill Beck Field on Wednesday, April 29. 
  • The Bears needed the day to host a rescheduled Ivy League game against Columbia. 
  • The game will not be made up.
