RHODE ISLAND VS. MAINE - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island opens its 2026 season with a game against Maine at the URI Soccer Complex Wednesday.
- The Rams welcome the Black Bears for the 23rd time in program history.
- Maine leads the series, 10-8-4.
- In the last meeting, Rhode Island beat the Black Bears 2-0 in Orono. The victory was the first in the series since 2016, when the Rams defeated Maine 2-0 on Sept. 11.
- The Rams are looking for their second straight season-opening win.Â
- Head coach Megan Jessee enters her 10th season at the helm.Â
- Jessee named Dani Eden, Aida Name, and Kyra Symalonis as the 2026 team captains.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
- Wednesday will be the season opener for both teams.
- Maine went 6-8-4 overall in 2025 en route to a third consecutive America East tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth.
- Maine returns three of its top five scorers from the 2025 squad.
- Eight of 11 goal scorers and eight of 12 overall point getters are also back for the Black Bears.
- Luise Reinwald and Olivia Grisdale were both named to the America East Preseason All-Conference team.Â
- The Black Bears were picked to finish first in the coaches' poll and tied with Binghamton with four first-place votes each.
RAMS PICKEDÂ THIRD; MACDONALD, EDEN NAMED TO PRESEASONÂ All-CONFERENCE TEAM
- Rhode Island women's soccer was picked to finish third in the A-10, the league released Monday.Â
- The team had a pair of Rams earn a spot on the Preseason All-Conference Team.Â
- Forward Lauren MacDonald was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team along with goalkeeper Dani Eden.Â
- MacDonald led the Rams last year with 25 points and 10 goals. She's currently ranked 13th all-time in program history with 47 career points.Â
- Eden helped preserve 11 shutouts, setting the program record.
- A season ago, the Rams finished 5-3-2 in league play, making the A-10 Final game for the first time in 20 years.
