- Providence played to a draw in its season opener last time out, 1-1 against UMass Lowell.Â
- Thaea Mouratidis and Courtnee Pickles were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
- The Friars were picked to finish sixth in the 2026 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 60 points. Providence finished last season with a 3-4-3 in conference play.
- The Friars return 18 players from last years roster.
STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
- Rhode Island picked up a win in its season-opener last time out, sending Maine home with a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday.
- Senior Nika Jacobs' goal in the 74th minute was the deciding factor.Â
- With the game scoreless heading into the final 15 minutes, Claire O'Neill sent a Rhode Island corner kick from the left side toward the far post. Courtney Poon sent the ball to to Jacobs, whose right-footed shot from 6 yards out found the net and proved to be the difference.
- Goalkeeper Dani Eden made her fifth and final save of the night in the 89th minute to preserve the victory She has 13 shutouts in 23 career appearances for URI.
- The Rams had the advantage in shots (8-7) while Maine had the advantage in shots on goal (5-3).
- The win was the Rams second win over the Black Bears in as many seasons. Rhode Island beat Maine 2-0 last season on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025.
- A season ago, the Rams started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2012.Â
