KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's golf head coach Gregg Burke announced that Brandon Gillis has been promoted to associate head coach of the program.

Entering his fourth season as a coach with the Rams, Gillis has deftly made the transition from student-athlete to the coaching ranks. In his first three seasons on Burke's staff, Gillis has helped URI win 10 team titles plus two postseason appearances at the National Golf Invitational. The team also placed fourth at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship, Rhode Island's highest finish in nine seasons.

 "Many times when someone is elevated to Associate Head Coach, it is a promotion and increase in responsibilities," Burke said. "In Brandon's case, it is simple acknowledgement of what he has been doing for our program for over a year. He is an invaluable component to our development and success." 

Over the last three seasons, Rhode Island has had three players named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team and one Academic All-Conference honoree. The Rams also have four A10 Player of the Week honors and six A10 Rookie of the Week awards. 

"Brandon has grown immeasurably in his role and as a young man," Burke said. "He is recognized as a top assistant nationally as evidenced by a Division I head coach job offer this summer. He is ready and will be a great head coach."

A two-time Division I PING Northeast All-Region Team selection, Gillis had a storied career for the Rams from 2018-23. A four-time Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week, he also was a two-time A-10 All-Conference selection and GCAA All-America Scholar for the Rams.
