STORRS, Conn. - Rhode Island got three singles wins from fourth-year player Blake Rothchild to lead the way for the Rams over the weekend at the UConn Invite. Initially planned as a three-day event, play was squeezed to Friday and Saturday due to rain in the area Sunday.

There were no team results, just individual play. Rhode Island competed in singles and doubles against UConn and Bryant. The Rams played just singles matches against Army.

Rothchild was URI's lone winner during Friday's action against UConn. She earned a straight-set win over Caroline Hinshaw; 6-2, 6-4. The next day, Rothchild defeated Bryant's Athmika Sreenivas (6-1, 6-3) in the morning and then took care of Army's Chelsie Son (6-4, 6-3).

Also getting two singles wins for Rhode Island were first-year player Ellen Katzer and fourth-year player Stephanie Hylton. Katzer had a straight-set win over Bryant's Aurora Pedwell (6-1, 6-4) and then outlasted Anna Cherico of Army in a super-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9.

Similarly, Stephanie Hylton beat Bryant's Abigail Ellison in matching straight-set style, winning 6-3, 6-3. She followed that with a marathon victory over Army's Sienna Frizelle (6-3, 5-7, 10-8).

Third-year players Grace Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson each grabbed one singles win. Darcy beat Bryant's Laura Stypula (6-2, 7-6 (3)), while Pettersson's win came against Bryant's Nicole Isman (6-2, 6-1). Darcy and Pettersson also teamed up for a doubles win against Stypula and Mila Martinez (6-3).

Second-year player Kajsa Helgesen paired up with first-year player /Iben Mol for a doubles win over Bryant's Maria Jose Hernandez and Ceylin Konuralp (7-5).

Rhode Island is off until the Atlantic 10 Masters, which will be held at Davidson from Oct. 2-4.
