Men's Basketball Downed By Yale, 77-66

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Freshman guard Alex Gamboa led five players in double figures with 15 points as Yale beat Rhode Island 77-66 Tuesday night.

Yale (7-4) broke a 31-31 halftime tie with a 12-2 run to open the second half, capped by Gamboa's 3-pointer with 15:55 left. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 65-48 with 4:28 remaining before Rhode Island staged a comeback.

Dustin Hellenga hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 left to pull Rhode Island (3-5) to within 71-62.

Paul Vitelli answered for Yale, making five free throws in the final minute. Vitelli finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Edwin Draughan had 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Yale, while T.J. McHugh added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Hellenga led Rhode Island with 30 points. Dinno Daniels added 11 points, and Marcel Momplaisir chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and six blocks for the Rams.
