Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to Lafayette at the Rider Invitational today in Lawrenceville, N.J.

The Rams out-shot Lafayette 17-10 and had 10 corner kicks to seven for Lafayette, but gave up a breakaway goal in the first half and then a direct kick from 30 yards in overtime to fall to 1-0 on the season.

Lafayette's Mark Price scored the breakaway goal 36 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.

Rhody tied the score with just under five minutes to play when freshman Dawid Badecki (Jelenia Gora, Poland) scored his first collegiate goal from five yards out off an assist from sophomore Jeffrey Gonsalves (Markham, Ontario). That forced overtime, but 6:33 into the extra session Lafayette was awarded a direct kick from 30 yards out and Nathan Jolly found the back of the net for the game winning goal.

Junior goalkeeper Dean Ruddy made three saves in goal for the Rams.

The Rams (0-1) will be back in action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against host Rider.
