Baseball Overtaken By Wisconsin-Milwaukee

BRADENTON, Fla. - The University of Rhode Island baseball team had a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning, but Wisconsin-Milwaukee tied the game and then erupted for seven runs in the eighth for a 12-9 win Saturday.

Rhode Island had taken a 5-2 lead in the seventh on a three-run homer by senior Matt Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), but Wisconsin-Milwaukee tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with three runs of its own.

The Panthers (3-7) broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth inning, parading seven runs across the plate to take a 12-5 lead heading into the ninth.

Rhode Island did answer back with four runs in its final at-bat, but could not come all the way back in dropping to 2-9 on the season.

Junior Daryl Holcomb (Wilmington, Del.) had two hits for the Rams.

The game was the Rams' last in Florida. Rhody will play at Long Island on Tuesday and then travel to Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The Sacred Heart game was originally scheduled for Bill Beck Field in Kingston, but was moved to Fairfield.
