BROOKLYN, N.Y. -
The University of Rhode Island baseball team will play its first game outside the state of Florida on Tuesday when the Rams travel to New York for a match-up with Long Island at 3:00 p.m.
The defending Atlantic 10 regular season champion Rams are off to a slow start with a 2-9 record in the early going, but the Rams have stumbled out of the gate in each of the past two seasons and wound up winning back-to-back-Atlantic 10 East Division titles.
Rhody (2-9) started the season with a near upset of then No. 12 ranked Florida, losing 5-4, and after losing the second game 6-0 to the Gators, the Rams had their next four games washed out. So after spending two weeks practicing exclusively in Tootell Gymnasium, the Rams were a little rusty for their Florida trip last week.
The Rams face Long Island for the Black Birds home opener Tuesday. Long Island is off to a 2-3 start and Tuesday's game is the first of five-straight at home for the Black Birds.
