Box Score
NORRISTOWN, Pa. -
It's not often that a baseball team scores 31 unanswered runs over a two-game stretch.
That's what the University of Rhode Island baseball team put together when it defeated Saint Joseph's 15-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.
Rhode Island had scored 16 unanswered runs in a 16-1 win over Harvard on Thursday and took a 15-0 lead Sunday, before Saint Joseph's scored its first run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the last inning.
The Atlantic 10 East Division-leading Rams improved to 22-15 overall and 13-3 in the conference. Rhode Island has won 14 of its last 15 games and would clinch its 13th-straight Atlantic 10 series victory with a victory in one of the last two games of the series with Saint Joseph's.
Senior Dan Frederick (Dracut, Mass.) pitched a complete-game four-hitter to earn the win. He struck out five, walked one and allowed only one run, on a two-out single in the seventh inning. Frederick is now 4-3 on the season, including a 4-1 mark in conference play.
"Freddy pitched his heart out for us," Rhode Island head coach Frank Leoni said. "He is really starting to show what he is capable of."
Sophomore Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) extended his hitting streak to 14 games with two hits. He was one of five Rhody players to record multi-hit games. Senior Mike Rainville (Pawtucket, R.I.), senior Joe Viscuso (Farmingdale, N.Y.), junior Wayne Russo (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Ryan Cunningham (Centreville, Va.) each had two hits.
