Three-Time Defending Atlantic 10 East Champion Rams Host UConn

May 10, 2005

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island baseball team, ranked No. 2 in New England, will host Connecticut, the No. 3 team in New England, on Tuesday in the final home game of the season at Bill Beck Field.

Sophomore lefthander Adam Perkins (Hudson, N.H.) will get the start for the Rams as he looks to set the school record with his ninth victory of the season. Perkins is 8-1 on the season, which ties him for most wins in a season with current teammate Zack Zuercher (Warwick, R.I.), who won eight games in 2004, and former Ram Pete Kehoe, who had eight victories in 2002. Perkins pitched a no-hitter against Iona earlier this year to earn Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors.

Rhode Island is 13-3 on the season at Bill Beck Field and has won 14 of the last 15 games and 20 of the last 22. The Rams are 28-16 overall and 17-4 in the Atlantic 10, having clinched their third-straight Atlantic 10 East Division title with a 7-1 victory over Fordham on Monday.

UConn comes to Kingston with a 28-18 record, having won six of its last seven games. The Huskies haven't played a game since May 1 due to final exams.

Tony Mallozzi leads the Huskies in batting at .381 and also leads the team in RBIs with 37. Jeff Hourigan is second on the team with a .358 batting average and 32 RBIs. Hourigan hit a walk-off homer to give the Huskies a 5-4 win over Georgetown in their last game on May 1.
