Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Despite holding onto a three-run lead over the game's first four innings, the Rhode Island baseball team fell to New Mexico, 17-5, late Friday night. Junior Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) led the Rams with three hits and two runs while redshirt senior Adam Perkins (Hudson, N.H.) threw four scoreless innings before the Lobos got on the board with a three-run fifth inning.

Rhody took a quick lead in the first inning as Hagey singled up the middle, stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch by New Mexico's Bobby LaFromboise. Senior Ryan Cunningham (Centreville, Va.) followed with an RBI double to left field which scored Hagey and gave URI the 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) and senior Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) strung together back-to-back hits to start the third inning and Savard extended the URI lead to 2-0 when he scored on an error by Lobo catcher Drew McDonald. Rhody pushed its lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth when junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) sent a leadoff double down the left field line and then scored on classmate Mike O'Malley's (Nashua, N.H.) single to right.

New Mexico went on to plate 17 runs over the next four innings, compared to just two by Rhode Island, ending the game with a 17-5 advantage.

Perkins took the loss for URI, yielding three hits and six runs through five-and-a-third innings while LaFromboise picked up the win for the Lobos, allowing 12 hits and 5 runs in seven innings.

Rhode Island will face New Mexico again at 5:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
