BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Eric Larson (Bradenton, Fla.) went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team fell to Fordham, 7-5, on Saturday night at Houlihan Park.
Fordham took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Bobby DiNardo led off with a triple and then crossed the plate on Brian Keeney's single to right field.
Rhody responded with a two-run fourth inning as Larson plated senior Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) with a triple to right center before scoring on a sac-fly to left field by senior Gregg Allen (Dighton, Mass.).
Fordham then tied the score in the bottom of the inning and took a 4-2 lead in the fifth.
URI got within a run in the top of the eighth as Brown led off with an outfield single and advanced to third on a double by Larson before scoring on Allen's ground-out to short.
Fordham scored three more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-3 lead. Rhody rallied back, scoring twice in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Fordham picked up the 7-5 win.
The two teams will meet again, tomorrow afternoon, at 1:00 p.m.
