April 2, 2008

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team dropped the first end of a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader at Brown, 11-3. Freshman Robert Noe (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored two of the Rams' three runs.

Brown (8-11) plated a pair of runs in the first inning and added two more in the second before Rhody cut the Bears' lead in half in the top of the third. Noe, who drew a lead-off walk, crossed the plate first - on a wild pitch - before senior Mike O'Malley's (Nashua, N.H.) double to right scored freshman Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) to make the score 4-2.

The Bears added seven more in their next four at-bats before URI scored its third and final run in the top of the seventh inning when freshman Pete Mastors (Warwick, R.I.) - who was making his collegiate debut against the Bears - tripled to right center to score Noe.

Sophomore Dan Rossignol (Nashua, N.H.) was charged with the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) in two-plus innings. Brown's Conor earned the win, his first of the season.

The two teams take the field again at 5 p.m. for the second game of the doubleheader.
