KINGSTON, R.I. – The Rhode Island swimming & diving teams completed the first day of hosting their 16th annual Harold Anderson Invitational on Friday night.
A total of 12 events were held on day one (six women, six men), and the women's 400-yard medley relay opened the meet. The rams took the first two spots, with the team of Katie Mangano, Jessica Andruzzi, Taylor Gannon and Chaya Zabludoff placing first (3:56.16) and Emily Thomesen, Rachel Revolinski, Susan Nugent and Caitlin Carter earning second (3:56.27). In the men's race, Rhode Island placed fourth, with Robert Deering, Kevin Ng, Tommy Frick and Evan Denard timing in at 3:42.81.
The next event was the women's 500-yard freestyle, and again the Rams earned the first two spots. Chaya Zabludoff won in 5:03.54 and Susan Nugent took second in 5:03.94. Taylor Gannon earned fifth (5:16.18). For the men, Willie Hooper led the Rams in 10th, finishing in 5:13.97.
In the women's 200-yard IM, Rachel Revolinski (2:09.01) and Jessica Andruzzi (2:11.82) finished one and two. Emily Thomesen placed fourth (2:12.14). Robert Deering placed fifth on the men's side, timing in at 2:03.74.
Katie Mangano took top honors in the women's 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 24.20, followed by Sarah Keshishian in third (24.61) and Eileen Morrison in sixth (25.13). Paul Ianiro placed fourth on the men's team, clocking in at 22.48.
Up next was the women's 200-yard freestyle relay and Rhody's team of Sarah Keshishian, Rachel Revolinski, Chaya Zabludoff and Susan Nugent won in 1:37.54. Colette Aubin, Eileen Morrison, Lauren Blais and Rachel Henninger were the third team to finish (1:41.17). For the men, Willie Hooper, Johnny Otterbein, Paul Ianiro and Evan Denard took fourth (1:30.60).
In the women's 1-meter dive, Cara Brown, Sasha White and Julie Coleman placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, with Coleman tying with Ashley Higgins of Maine. Brown made 190.90, White had 181.35 and Coleman earned 168.25.
In the men's 3-meter dive, Dan Schott placed second, earning 206.40, behind Providence's winner Ben Kardian (265.30).
Day two, the final day of the Harold Anderson Invitational, begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Tootell Aquatics Center.
