PALM BEACH, Fla. - Redshirt junior
Jeff Cammans recorded his team-leading seventh multiple hit game of the season as the Rhode Island baseball team fell to Western Michigan, 6-2, on Saturday. Cammans paced the team with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while classmate
Ty Muller finished with two hits for the Rams.
A big second inning was all Western Michigan would need to take the game, plating six runs on six hits and never looking back.
Rhody chipped away at the lead as Cammans scored on a sixth-inning ground out by senior Tom Coulombe before redshirt junior Evan Laude crossed the plate on classmate Milan Adams' seventh-inning double but that was as close as the Rams would get.
Senior Ken Graveline took the loss, giving up six runs (all earned) on nine hits over four innings. Junior Anthony Pisani came on in the fifth and allowed just two singles until senior Dan Johnson entered the game and tossed a scoreless ninth.
Steve Laudicina picked up the win for WMU, which recorded 12 hits on the day compared to Rhody's seven.
The Rams are back in action on Friday when they travel to Gainesville for the first of three games against the top-ranked Florida Gators.
