KIGNSTON, R.I. - Redshirt senior pitcher Stephen Peterson picked up his second consecutive win on the mound, helping lead the Rhode Island baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. Peterson yielded just five hits over 7.2 innings before handing the ball over to sophomore Mike Bradstreet, who did not allow a hit the rest of the way.

For the second straight game, Rhode Island was perfect in the field to improve to 8-1 when playing error-free defense.

Offensively, eight of URI's nine starters recorded at least one hit with juniors Mike LeBel, Jeff Cammans, Dan Haverstick and redshirt sophomore Pat Fortunato each finishing with two on the day. Fortunato also scored once and drove in a run while redshirt junior Greg Annarummo used a fourth-inning infield single to extend his hit streak to 10 games.

After stranding four runners over the first three innings, Rhody finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Haverstick scored on a two-out double by Fortunato.

The Billikens (20-12, 2-4) quickly tied things up in the top of the fifth, but committed two errors in the bottom of the frame that allowed Cammans to score on senior Tom Coulombe's single to left.

Rhody (16-13, 5-4) stretched it to 4-1 the following inning as junior Milan Adams crossed the plate on a single by LeBel before freshman Jeff Roy beat out a two-out ground ball to first to score Fortunato.

The Rams have now recorded 71 two-out RBI so far this season, while allowing just 53.

SLU got one back in the top of the eighth - and had two runners on with two outs - but Bradstreet retired Nick Becker to end any chances of a late rally.

Zack Smith took the loss for the Billikens, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits over 4.1 innings of work.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Quinnipiac at 3:30 p.m.
