CAMDEN, N.J. - The second-seeded Rhode Island baseball team (30-20, 16-8) is set to face sixth-seeded La Salle (28-24, 13-11) in Day Two action at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship. First pitch at Campbell's Field is set for Thursday, May 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Making their league-leading ninth consecutive appearance at the A-10 tourney, the Rams - who were picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll - have earned a first-round bye for the second time in three years.

Rhody is 15-16 (.484) all time at the A-10 Championship and 5-3 in tournament openers. Last year, the third-seeded Rams opened with a 7-2 win over sixth-seeded La Salle before falling to second-seeded Xavier, 4-2. URI bounced back with another 7-2 win over the Explorers but was knocked out of contention after a 7-3 loss to top-seeded Charlotte. Xavier (five times) and Charlotte (three times) have been the only teams to defeat the Rams in each of the last four postseasons.

This year, the Rams turned in a 6-6 record against A-10 tourney participants, taking two-of-three games from #5 Richmond and #6 La Salle. Rhode Island opened league play with a 1-2 showing at Charlotte, but went on to win six consecutive conference series before dropping two-of-three at Dayton last weekend. The Rams did not face fourth-seeded Xavier during the 2011 regular season.

Rhode Island holds a 17-6 advantage in the all-time series against La Salle. The Rams and Explorers met twice in last year's A-10 Championship with Rhody winning both games by a score of 7-2. URI also took two games from La Salle earlier this season, including a 7-3 win in extra innings. The Rams outscored the Explorers 28-11 over the three-game series.
