KINGSTON, R.I. - Redshirt junior Dan Haverstick went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team posted a 10-4 win over Massachusetts, Friday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. The Rams have now won eight of their last nine Atlantic 10 games, improving to 13-6 in the conference and 27-17 overall.

Redshirt junior Chris Pickering picked up the win on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings of no-hit relief. Junior starter Anthony Pisani gave up just three hits over the opening 5.1 innings but got a no-decision after leaving the game with the score tied at 4-4.

Redshirt sophomore Pat Fortunato finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI while senior Kyle Borden and redshirt junior Greg Annarummo each recorded two hits. Borden also drove in a pair of runs - one of which came on his team-leading seventh homer of the season.

Junior Mike LeBel homered as well, marking his fifth round-tripper of the year. With 21 career home runs, LeBel is now tied with URI Hall of Famer Tony Hill for second-all time in the Rhody record book.

Massachusetts (15-24, 6-10) got on the board first, plating an unearned run in the top of the second but Rhody quickly took over the lead in the bottom of the third. Haverstick got things started with a one-out double before evening the score on an RBI-single by Fortunato. Freshman Jeff Roy then went on to score the go-ahead run after hitting his team-leading fifth triple of the season.

Haverstick made it a 4-1 game the following inning, sending a two-run single up the middle to score both LeBel and junior Milan Adams.

However, the Minutemen came back and knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the sixth on a three-run shot by Peter Copa.

Borden put Rhody back in front in the bottom of the inning when he sent a solo shot to straightaway centerfield to make it 5-4 before LeBel homered to right to give the Rams a two-run lead.

URI then used a three-run seventh to push it to 9-4 as Haverstick led off with a single to right before being driven in on a fielder's choice ball by redshirt junior Jeff Cammans. Borden then singled to center to plate Cammans before senior Tom Coulombe scored from second on a base hit by Annarummo.

Haverstick went on to rip his second double of the game in the eighth inning, before advancing to third on a bunt single by Fortunato and crossing the place on a sac-fly by Roy to seal the 10-4 victory.

UMass' Glen Misho was charged with the loss, giving up nine runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings of work.

The Rams and Minutemen return to Bill Beck Field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
