How It Happened:

Charlie Rugg slid through the box and managed to redirect Amit Aburmad's corner kick past Rhody keeper Peyton Warwick just 1:58 into the game, giving the tenth-ranked Boston College Eagles all they needed to get by Rhode Island on a rainy Friday night at the URI Soccer Complex. The Rams had their chances but were unable to put one past Eagles goalkeeper Justin Luthy, who finished with 12 saves on the night.

Inside the Box Score:

  • With the loss, Rhode Island drops to 3-5 on the season while Boston College improves to 6-2.
  • Rhode Island held a 16-9 advantage in total shots and a 12-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Rams out-cornered the Eagles, 5-2.
  • Boston College committed 13 fouls to Rhody's six.
  • Each team was issues two yellow cards.
  • Matt Ribbens led URI with five shots (four on goal) while Matt Sykes and Mike Casey each recorded three. Rugg had a team-high three attempts for BC.
  • Warwick finished with two saves in goal for the Rams. Luthy, meanwhile, turned away 12 shots for the Eagles.
  • Luthy also got some help from the goal frame as Jamie Eckmayer fired a shot off the crossbar in the 56th minute and Casey's rebound attempt bounced off the post.

Additional Notes:

  • The loss drops Rhode Island to 18-11-1 in the all-time series against Boston College. BC has now won four of the last six meetings between the teams, dating back to 1992.
  • Each of the last five matches between the Rams and Eagles have been shutout victories for the winning team. Rhody is 2-3 in these games.
  • The Rams have now been shut out four times this year. Tonight's loss to the No. 10 Eagles marks Rhody's third 1-0 defeat.
  • Six of Rhody's seven matches so far this season have been decided by a single goal. In these games, Rhode Island is 3-4.
  • Junior Robby Gargaro has not missed a game - or a start - since joining the Rams in 2009. As a freshman, he started in each of URI's 20 matches and went on to start all 18 games last season. Tonight's contest against BC extended Gargaro's streak to 45 consecutive starts.
