How It Happened:
With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Matt Ribbens won a Duquesne goal kick and played a pass back up to Thomas Lindroos, who slid through the six-yard box and put the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 Rhody victory.

Inside the Box Score:

  • With the win, Rhode Island improves to 3-9-3 (2-3-1 Atlantic 10), while Duquesne drops to 5-10-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the A-10.
  • Rhode Island held a 20-5 advantage in total shots, including a 11-1 margin in the second frame. Overall, the Rams put five attempts on goal while the Dukes managed just one.
  • URI's back line turned in its best performance of the season, allowing a season-low five shots (one on goal). It was Rhody's fewest shots allowed since the season-opener (seven) at Vermont. 
  • Rhody held Duquesne's Joshua Patterson to just two shots on the night - both of which went wide of the goal. Patterson entered the game ranked 18th in the nation with 10 goals so far this season.
  • Each team recorded one corner kick on the night.
  • Duquesne committed 13 fouls to Rhody's 11. 
  • Thomas Spenser played all 90 minutes in goal, stopping the only shot he faced to pick up his third shutout of the season. Sam Frymier finished with four saves for Duquesne.
  • Matt Sykes attempted a game-high seven shots while Patterson and Karter Sell had two each for the Dukes.

Additional Notes:

  • Rhode Island is now 12-6-0 all time against Duquesne and 4-1-0 under head coach John O'Connor.
  • The 1-0 win marked Rhody's first shutout victory of the season. The Rams had previously played to a scoreless tie with both Northern Illinois (Sept. 7) and Temple (Oct. 12).
  • The win also improved URI's record to 3-1-2 at home. 
  • Fourteen of the Rams' 20 goals this season have been scored at the URI Soccer Complex.
  • Lindroos' goal was his third of the season and eighth of his career. He now has 21 career points (8G/5A).
  • Ribbens' assist was his second of the season and seventh of his career. He now has 19 career points (6G/7A).

Up Next:
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host St. Bonaventure (1 p.m.) in their final home game of the season. Prior to the start the match, Rhode Island will hold a brief ceremony to honor its nine players set to graduate in May.
