BUFFALO, N.Y. – After the first day of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships, the Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team sits fourth of 10 with 56 points.
Fordham and Richmond are tied for first with 74 points and La Salle sits third with 60.
In the first women's event, the 200-yard medley relay, Emily Thomesen, Rachel Revolinski, Colette Aubin, and Katie Mangano set a new varsity record with a time of 1:45.16 in their fifth-place finish. They beat the old record set last year of 1:45.49.
In the second event, the 800-yard freestyle relay, Chaya Zabludoff, Taylor Gannon, Sarah Keshishian, and Susan Nugent just missed the team record while coming in fifth with a time of 7:32.14. The Rhode Island record is 7:31.05. Zabludoff set a new team record in the 200-yard leadoff with a time of 1:50.80. The old record was held by 2011 graduate Lillian Falconer.
Day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships kicks off Thursday morning with trials beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals taking place at 6:30 p.m.
