Swim & Dive Sixth in Second To Last A-10 Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – With one day remaining of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships, the Rhode Island women's swim & dive team sits sixth of 10 with 182 points.

Richmond is in first with 516, followed by Fordham (358.5), La Salle (311), Massachusetts (267), Duquesne (185), St. Bonaventure in seventh (169), Xavier (165), George Washington (163.5), and Saint Louis in 10th (118).

Freshman Chaya Zabludoff earned fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.70, just missing her URI record by .05.

In the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Emily Thomesen finished fourth (56.67), breaking her morning time of 56.97. Senior Katie Mangano placed 15th in 58.65.

Freshman Jessica Andruzzi took seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.45), while freshman Rachel Revolinski followed in eighth in 1:06.56.

The 400-yard medley relay team – Thomesen, Andruzzi, Zabludoff, and junior Susan Nugent – earned seventh in 3:51.62.

Rhode Island morning swims were as followed:

  • 400 IM: Emily Thomesen 18th (4:38.12) and Kasey Lefebvre 25th (4:57.69)
  • 100 Fly: Susan Nugent 17th (57.37); new school record, previously held by her, Colette Aubin 21st (58.13), Taylor Gannon 24th (58.54)
  • 100 Back: Emily Thomesen 7th (56.97); new school record, Katie Mangano 13th (58.02); tied the old school record, Caitlin Carter 19th (58.95), Jennifer Lopez 26th (1:01.27)

Rhode Island wraps up A-10 competition on Saturday, with trials beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
