How It Happened
No. 22 George Mason (8-3-3, 1-2-1 A-10) struck first, scoring an unassisted goal in the 17th minute when Colton Amidon controlled a loose ball in the box and beat Rhode Island's Nils Leifhelm for the early advantage.

The Rams (7-3-3, 3-0-0) evened it up just before the break however as Dante Lamb netted his second goal in as many games. Lamb, who found himself perfectly positioned to collect a rebound off an attempt by Mike Casey, fired a shot into the top of the goal to knot score at one apiece with 2:07 left on the clock. URI is now 7-0-3 when heading into the break either leading or tied.

Carlo Davids then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just over ten minutes into the second half, giving the Rams the lead for good at the 55:57 mark. The tally came off a corner kick which Ryan Oakley tapped to Matt Sykes. Sykes then served the ball to the top of the box where Davids hammered a shot off the left post and into the back of the net for the 2-1 lead. Daniel Murphy added an insurance goal 15 minutes later, slipping one past Mason's Steffen Kraus on a feed from Lamb.

  • The victory also was Rhode Island's first over a ranked opponent since defeating then No. 13 Brown, 2-1, back in 2003.
  • The Rams are now undefeated over their last eight games -- URI's longest unbeaten streak since an 8-0-1 span in 2005.
  • All three Rhode Island goals were scored by freshmen as Dante Lamb netted his third of the season, Carlo Davids scored his second and Daniel Murphy registered the first of his career.
  • Lamb also recorded an assist on the night, marking his second multi-point game of the season.
