How it Happened
Davidson (14-10, 4-3) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, thanks to a bases-loaded walk and a two-run homer by David Daniels.

The Rams (7-11-1) cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, when Connor Foreman scored on a groundout by Mike Corin. Foreman scored again in the bottom of the sixth, on an RBI double by Corin, but not before the Wildcats had tacked on four more runs for the eventual 7-2 win.

Inside the Box Score

  • Rhode Island finished the game with just five hits while Davidson slugged out 14 - including two doubles, a triple and a home run.
  • The Wildcats drew just one walk in the game, despite entering the series averaging a conference-leading 5+ per game.
  • Junior Ryan Olmo accounted for two of Rhody's five hits in the loss with redshirt sophomore Mike Corin, junior Connor Foreman and sophomore Martin Taveras recording one each.
  • Foreman reached three times overall as he was hit by a pitch in the first and sixth innings. He also scored both Rhode Island runs on the afternoon, being driven in by Corin in back-to-back at-bats in the fourth and sixth.
  • Corin and Foreman are currently riding reached-base streaks of 12 games each. Foreman's active hit streak is at seven games - a season-high among all Rhode Island players - while Corin's is at five.
  • With his ninth-inning walk, Chris Hess has now reached base at least once in each of URI's last eight games.
  • Eight of Davidson's nine starters had hits, with the Wildcats' 2-6 guys each turning in a multi-hit performance.
  • The lone Wildcat starter to go 0-for-4 was Ben Arkin, who drew Davidson's only walk of the afternoon.
  • Clark Beeker (2-2) earned the win, allowing just two runs on four hits and a walk over 8.1 innings on the hill.
  • Junior Steve Moyers (0-4) took the loss, allowing five runs (all earned) on 11 hits over five-plus innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
  • The 11 hits allowed by Moyers are the most in any of his 32 career appearances (28 starts) for the Rams.
  • Moyers was relieved in the top of the sixth by freshman Nick Johnson, who faced three batters and gave up two runs without recording an out before handing the ball to classmate Dom Grillo.
  • Grillo went on to toss three shutout frames with no hits, no walks and three strikeouts. In his seventh relief appearance of the season, the Rhody southpaw lowered his ERA from 1.59 to 1.04.
  • Redshirt sophomore Matt Ferraiolo closed out the game for the Rams with a scoreless top of the ninth.
