How it Happened
Rhode Island (26-24-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Derek Gardella sent a two-out single down the right field line to drive in Tim Caputo. The advantage was short lived however, as Davidson (27-22) plated a pair in top of the fourth to move in front 3-2.
Rhody came back in the bottom of the frame, with Jordan Powell lining a two-run single over Davidson's second baseman to push across Martin Taveras and Nick DeRegis. Powell struck again in the bottom of the sixth, this time beating out a single to short which allowed DeRegis to score from second and put the Rams on top 4-2.
The Wildcats cut it to 4-3 in the top of the eighth - on a two-out RBI single by Ben Arkin - but that was as close as they would get as Brad Applin closed out the win with a 1-2-3 ninth.
