How It Happened
Rhode Island controlled play throughout much of the first half, outshooting Albany 7-4 and maintaining a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Great Danes turned the tides in the second 45, firing off nine shots to URI's four and holding a 3-2 edge in corners.
Albany used the momentum to register the game's only goal in the 78th minute. Martin Gorrie served up a ball from the midfield line and found Leo Melgar at the top of the box. With Gorrie's ball played slightly over the head of center back Oscar Soons, Melgar got to it on a bounce and was able to easily tap a shot past goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm for the 1-0 win.
