How It Happened
Tiago Mendonca scored the lone goal of the game for No. 8 Providence, collecting a 36th-minute rebound and heading the ball over Nils Leifhelm for the eventual game-winner. Julian Gressel was credited with an assist on the play as he fired off a shot that was stopped by Leifhelm before Mendonca headed in the loose rebound.

Rhode Island had its chances early on, as shots by Dominik Richter and Mike Casey went just high of the frame in the 10th and 16th minutes. The Rams also had a pair of shots in the final 10 minutes, but Jason Ronnie's blast from point blank range was stopped by PC's Ben Seguljic and Emil Jesman Sunde's shot just a minute later went over the crossbar.
