Rhody Defeats La Salle in the First Meet of the Season

La Salle Explorers vs. Rhode Island Rams

Rhode Island took to the pool for their first meet of the season on Saturday. The Rams defeated the Explorers, 200-100, at their annual "Pink Out" meet. 

Highlights From the Pool

  • The Rams took first place in 12 of the 16 events.
  • Senior Lauren Folkert finished in first in three different events: the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
  • Freshman Sabrina Anderson won two events in her first collegiate swim meet. She posted a time of 10:46.00 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a 5:16.47 in the 500-yard freestyle.
  • Sophomore Nicole Petta also walked away with two first-place finishes by swimming times of 1:07.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:27.45 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
  • Rhody took the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle. The event was won by Alexandra Brow, followed by Grace Kneller and Maddie Horner, respectively.
  • Senior Bridget Whalen was the only swimmer in the 100-yard butterfly to finish with a sub-minute time. She swam a 59.82.
  • The Rams also took the top-three places in the 100-yard butterfly. After Whalen followed Caitlyn Blake in second and Caitlin Guccione in third.
  • Junior Hannah Homans was also victorious, taking first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.57.
  • Rhody took the best times in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

"We had a good start. We worked hard to get where we're at. It actually started last March when the team made a commitment to get better. It was a good opportunity to swim against a good school from La Salle."

Up Next 
Rhody will have a quick turnaround and return to action this Friday, Oct. 21, when Maine comes to Kingston for the Rams' homecoming meet. The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
