Results

Despite big days from Nicole Petta, Maria Smirnov and Lauren Folkert, Rhode Island (5-4) was narrowly defeated by Vermont by the slim score of 155-145.

Highlights From the Pool

  • Sophomore Nicole Petta had a huge day with three individual victories. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.32, the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:25.07 and the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:12.51.
  • Sophomore Hannah Homans took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.64. Senior Lauren Folkert finished second in 59.08 seconds.
  • Folkert also won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.44. It was Folkert's 10th individual win of the season, the most on the team.
  • Senior Carly DeLiberty took silver in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:07.65 and bronze in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:27.55.
  • Freshman Caitlin Guccione continued with her strong rookie season by winning the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.12).
  • Senior Maria Smirnov and freshman Katy Evans took one-two in both 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving. Smirnov was first in both events (239.89 in 1-meter and 229.65 in 3-meter) while Evans took second (220.49 in 1-meter and 226.72 in 3-meter).
  • Senior Bridget Whalen won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.45. She was the only Ram to swim the event in under one minute.
  • Rhode Island ended the day in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Folkert, DeLiberty, Whalen and Grace Kneller swimming a time of 3:34.47.

Up Next

Rhody will be back in the state of Rhode Island on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Bryant to take on the Bulldogs. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
