How It Happened
Rhode Island (1-0-0) jumped out to a quick lead as Chae Brangman scored on his first shot as a Ram, just 4:27 into the match. Stavros Zarokostas was credited with an assist on the play, working his way through traffic and feeding the ball to the front of the net where Brangman hammered a shot in at the right post to give the Rams an early advantage.
Zarokostas then doubled the Rhode Island lead in the 36th minute, one-timing the rebound off a Peder Kristiansen attempt and beating BU's Michael Bernardi to go up 2-0.
The Rams returned from the break and pushed it to 3-0 just five minutes in, as Kristiansen fired a shot through the box and into the back of the net from 45 yards out.
Nils Leifhelm turned away all four shots he faced to pick up his 16th career shutout. Leifhelm saved back-to-back shots in the 15th minute, made a diving stop in the 54th minute and punched out BU's final attempt in the game's 89th minute.
