How It Happened
A record-breaking performance by senior Katy Evans sparked a stretch of two straight event victories as Rhode Island jumped out ahead of the field on Day One of the Harold Anderson Invitational.
After one day of competition, Rhode Island holds a healthy lead over the field. The Rams scored 245.5 team points, 59 points more than second-place Binhamton (186.5). Holy Cross is in third place with 185 points, followed closely by Vermont (181) and Assumption (165).
In Event Nine of the day, Evans broke the meet record in the 1-meter dive, winning the event with a score of won the 1-meter dive with a score of 255.60. She beat out Maine's Phil Ann Dixon (246.90), who previously set the meet record last year. Rhody's Alyssa Campone (243.30) took third place and Fallon Pfeifer (213.75) was sixth, giving the Rams 49 team points in the event.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Julia Renna, Rebecca Younts, Caitlin Guccione and Aimee Garcia made it two straight victories for the Rams. Rhody's contingent finished more than a second ahead of Assumption to earn 40 more team points. The team of Kaitlyn Banksy, Cassidy Fries, Mackenna Dunn and Zoe Sheridan placed sixth in the event to add 26 more points.
