How It Happened
A strong day for its relay teams and yet another dominant showing by diver Katy Evans helped Rhode Island maintain its lead over the field after two days of the Harold Anderson Invitational. Heading into the final day of competition, Rhody has 245.5 points, putting the Rams ahead of Binghamton (186.5), Holy Cross (185) and Vermont (181) at the top of the standings.
The team of Julia Renna, Rebecca Younts, Caitlin Guccione and Camryn Kreuscher got the day started with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Rhody's team edged Assumption at the wall by .20 seconds, giving the Rams 40 points out of the gate. URI scored 58 points total in the event, as the team of Grace Kennedy, Brooke Kelley, Shauna Killane and Maddie Horner added 18 points by placing ninth.
Evans picked up her second victory in as many days, winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 255.30. It was the second straight day she set a new Invitational record as well. Evans - who won the 1-meter dive on Friday, scored 20 team points Saturday. Rhode Island also got points from sophomore Alyssa Campone and Fallon Pfeiffer, getting 44 team points in the event.
Next up, it was the team of Garcia, Cara Megill, Zoe Sheridan and Mackenna Dunn winning the 800-yard freestyle relay. With a meet-record time of 7:40.97, the Rams held off Vermont (7:42.24) to grab 40 team points. Rhody's time broke the Harold Anderson Invitational record by more than seven seconds. A seventh-place finish by Kreuscher, Sabrina Anderson, Horner and Emma Grace Pecha gave Rhody another 24 points.
Standouts From the Pool
- Senior Caitlin Guccione placed second in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 57.45 was just .46 seconds off the pace of Holy Cross' Kelly Rose (56.99), earning 17 points for the Rams.
- Junior Rebecca Younts was second in the 100-yard breaststroke, coming in just behind Assumption's Abbey Holmes. Holmes finished in 1:05.22, while Younts had a time of 1:05.56, good for 17 team points.
- Rhody showed significant depth in the 100-yard breaststroke. After Younts, junior Brooke Kelley and senior Cassidy Fries placed third and fifth, respectively, adding 30 more points for the Rams.
- Freshman Julia Renna took third in the 100-yard backstroke, and sophomore Grace Kennedy placed sixth in the event. They provided 29 team points.
- Junior Cara Megill took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, while senior Mackenna Dunn placed seven. The duo combined for 27 points.
- Freshman Aimee Garcia scored 15 points with her fourth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley.

Day Three of the Harold Anderson Invitational takes place Sunday, Nov. 24 in the Tootell. Aquatic Center. The action begins at 9:30 a.m.
