How It Happened
Rhode Island's 800-yard relay team of Aimee Garcia, Zoe Sheridan, Sabrina Anderson and Mackenna Dunn won the final event of the day, leading Rhode Island to a 141-140 victory over Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts Saturday.

The Rams won the race in a time of 7:48.33, just .48 seconds ahead of the UMass contingent. The victory gave Rhode Island (6-0) its first victory over UMass since 1980, snapping a string of 18 losses in the series.

Rhode Island won eight of the 15 events, including multiple victories for freshmen Aimee Garcia and Julia Renna. Garcia won the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke, while also swimming the first leg of the 800-yard freestyle.

Renna opened the meet by swimming the first leg in the 400-yard medley relay victory. She later added wins in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events.

Standouts From the Pool

• In addition to the three events she won, freshman Aimee Garcia placed second in the 100-yard individual medley. She helped score 33 team points.
• Senior Caitlin Guccione won the 100-yard butterfly and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly.
• In the 200-yard freestyle, Rhode Island's depth was the key. Seniors Mackenna Dunn, Sabrina Anderson and Maddie Horner placed 2-3-4, combining for 10 points. This allowed URI to outscore UMass 10-9, despite UMass' Mariam Labib taking first place.
• Junior Rebecca Younts won the 100-yard breaststroke, and was followed to the wall by teammates Brooke Kelley and Cassidy Fries.

What's Next
The Rams are off for nearly two weeks before they are back at home for the annual Harold Anderson Invitational. The three-day meet begins Friday, Nov. 22.
