Black Wins 1000 Meter With Record Finish, Rams Finish Fifth at New England's

Rhode Island women's track and field finished fifth at the New England Championship. Rhody raked in 60 team points during the two day event.

Results from Friday

  • Ashley Evans finished 18th in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:36.26. Camille Bertholon was 20th in 18:42.49.
  • Jessica Ippolito was ninth in the pole vault after clearing 3.55 meters.
  • Kristina MacLure finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.70 meters. Xiana Twombly was 17th (5.26m).
  • In the weight throw, Noelya Delacruz was fourth (17.01m), Molly Botts was 12th (15.69m), Erynn Field was 16th (15.00m), and Samantha Andrews was 17th (14.98m).

Highlights from Saturday

  • Lotte Black won the 1000 meter, crossing the finish line in 2:44.74. The time was both a New England Championship meet record and Rhode Island best, and is currently second the NCAA. The previous meet record of 2:46.61 was recorded in 1995. Black took home the crown for the second straight year, finishing first in the 1000 meter last year at the 2019 New England Indoor Championship.
  • Kaylen Hughes was 12th in the 1000 meters in 3:04.90.
  • The 4x400 meter relay team of Kelly MacDonnell, Kristina MacLure, Gabrielle Curtis, and Bethany DeLoof placed first in 3:45.35. The finish was 10th best all-time and was the third straight crown for the indoor 4x400 meter relay team.
  • Becca Durham finished 17th in the mile with a time of 5:13.00. Una Treanor was 21st in 5:17.79.
  • Noelya Delacruz was 19th in the shot put with a throw of 11.93 meters.

What's Next
The Rams return to competition this Saturday, Feb. 8 for the annual URI Coaches Tribute hosted at Mackal Fieldhouse. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
