BOSTON, Mass. - Rhode Island claimed its second consecutive New England Women's Indoor Track and Field team championship on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The Rams had four individual New England champions, three of which were crowned on Saturday.
Macy Daigle's championship in the high jump led the Rams on Friday. Entering Saturday, Rhode Island was fourth in the team standings. Wins from
Lily Saul in the 1000m,
Keira Cleary in the 500m, and
Zoe Catrambone in the 800m propelled Rhode Island to 143 points at the end of all events. The Rams edged out second-place Quinnipiac (119 points) to take the program's second title.
Saturday Highlights
- Lily Saul won the 1000m run with a meet record time of 2:44.12.
- Saul narrowly beat out former Ram Lotte Black was held the previous meet record time of 2:44.74 in 2020.
- Led by Keira Cleary's first place finish, Rhode Island impressed in the 500m with five of the events top eight spots and boasting an impressive 28 combine points.
- Cleary's time of 1:14.97 was the best in the event, followed by Anna-Rose Merchant's second place finish in 1:15.19.
- Laurel Filiberto (1:16.15) placed fourth in the 500m, followed by Sydney Haik (1:17.76) in sixth, and Greta Dahl (1:18.73) in seventh.
- The Rams had the top three finishers in the 800m run. Zoe Catrambone (2:10.56) won the event, Madeline Till (2:12.77) came in second, and Kelsey Wolff (2:13.30) rounded out the top three.
- The team of Wolff, Till, Catrambone, and Lilly Pittakas took home second place in the 4x800m relay (9:10.07).
- Lily MacDonald finished second in the triple jump (39' 10.75").
- Zarah Singleton placed third in the 60m dash (7.61), earning six points for Rhode Island.
- The team of Cleary, Saul, Filiberto, and Merchant finished third in the 4x400m relay (3:52.02).
- Reagan Garibaldi ran the 400m in 56.72 seconds, finishing in third place and earning six team points.
- Garibaldi also scored in the 200m dash after finishing in fifth place with a time of 25.17.
- Alyssa Yankee was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 42'.
- Leyla Kvaternik finished sixth in the 1000m run (2:59.81) and earned the team three points.
- Kayla Clark finished seventh in the 60m hurdles (8.94), earning the team two points.
- Sofia Piccone (9:56.86) and Jordan Hadfield (9:57.62) both earned points in the 3000m.
