Jeff Dowtin Named 2020 Albert LeBoeuf Award Winner

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's basketball player Jeff Dowtin has been named the recipient of URI's 2020 Albert LaBoeuf Award.

Voted on by athletic department staff members, the LeBoeuf Award recognizes the most outstanding graduating male student-athlete who has been a role model in his collegiate career and has maintained good academic standing.

A two-year team captain, Dowtin is one of the top point guards in Rhode Island basketball history. He finished his career as just the third URI player to record both 1,000 points and 450 assists, joining Rhody legends Carlton "Silk" Owens and Tyson Wheeler. Dowtin graduated 22nd in program history with 1,410 points and third with 473 assists.

Over the last four seasons, Dowtin helped Rhode Island win the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2017 and the league's regular-season title in 2018. Both years, URI advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship. An Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team selection in 2019-20, he also was a member of the A-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman. As a senior, he ranked 15th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Dowtin tied the program record for most conference wins in a four-year span (50) and finished one shy of overall record for total wins in four-year span (90).

A three-time A-10 Academic All-Conference selection, Dowtin graduated with a 3.52 grade-point average in Business. He made the Dean's List every semester at Rhode Island. Dowtin also volunteered as a mentor with Special Olympics and worked at the Ryan Center as part of the operations staff, assisting with event setup and cleaning and organizing the building.

The 2020 recipient of URI's Winifred Keaney Award winner will be announced on GoRhody.com on Friday.
